Your elected prosecuting attorney, which is often referred to as the “district attorney” in other states, is the chief law enforcement official in your county. In other words, your county prosecutor is responsible for making critical decisions that affect the safety and security of our community. For example, the prosecutor decides what charges to bring against an individual, evaluates the strength and weaknesses of individual cases to determine if a plea deal is offered after the case is charged, and determines how aggressively to pursue cases. In making these decisions, the prosecutor is required to balance the interests of the state of West Virginia, the defendant (or the person charged with the crime), and the victims and/or witnesses to reach a fair and just outcome for all.
Here are some important reasons to get to know your prosecutor:
The prosecutor is responsible for representing the interests of crime victims and keeping dangerous people off the streets. Your prosecuting attorney works for YOU.
Simply put, the Kanawha County prosecuting attorney is here to serve you. Your prosecuting attorney should work every day to prioritize making Kanawha County safer by reducing crime, providing justice for the victims of crime, and pursuing community engagement. These foundational actions taken by your prosecuting attorney will provide the backbone for your county to become a safer place to live, go to church, to work and to school, and to raise our families. Victims of violent crimes, property crimes, and other wrongs should feel supported and encouraged during the process of prosecuting a case, and communication between the Prosecutor’s Office and the parties involved in a case should be freely flowing.
Community engagement is essential to build trust between Kanawha County citizens and the elected prosecutor.
If you don’t know your county prosecutor, how can you trust her or him to prosecute cases and run the office in a manner consistent with our Kanawha County values and visions?
The answer? You cannot.
The elected prosecuting attorney and all assistant prosecuting attorneys should make themselves available to the community at large. If a Kanawha County resident identifies a problem within the community, the best way to alert the prosecuting attorney is to send an email, make a quick call, or schedule a time to speak to the prosecuting attorney in person.
You should feel confident your prosecutor is working around the clock to make sure criminals are held accountable. You should feel secure that your prosecutor is tough, aggressive, and confident. You should feel confident knowing your prosecuting attorney will work hand-in-hand with local law enforcement in to make sure those who break the law are held accountable.
I am Morgan Switizer. I want to earn your vote for the Republican nomination for Kanawha Prosecuting Attorney. The Kanawha County GOP Primary Election is May 14th, 2024.
I am a lifelong resident of Kanawha County. I am a conservative, I am a Republican, I am an attorney, I am a single mom and I love this county and this state with everything I have. My goal is simple: I want to make our county as safe and secure as it can possibly be.
I attended public schools my whole life before attending Marshall University and later, West Virginia University College of Law. After I graduated, I passed the bar and moved back to Charleston with my young son Max to raise my family and pursue a career as an attorney. As a brand new mother and lawyer, I knew it wasn’t always going to be easy, but I knew with hard work, dedication and the support of the same Kanawha County community in which I was raised, I could make it.
When I was just in high school I got the opportunity of a lifetime to have a summer internship with the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. This experience began what I knew would be my life’s work. Pursuing justice for the great people of this county who have been affected by crime became my passion. Moreover, I want a safe and secure community where I can raise my son Max, where you can raise your sons and daughters and where all our grandchildren can live happy, healthy, and safe lives.
I have years of experience working as an attorney in Kanawha County. I have worked in family law where I learned how to navigate the intersection of the law and complicated family issues. I have worked as an attorney in the Office of Governor Jim Justice where I learned that major policy initiatives have a real impact on the lives of countless West Virginians and you should never lose sight of that. I have served as an Assistant Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney where I learned to be tough on crime and a strong advocate for the victims of those crimes. Spending countless hours investigating crimes, working closely with the brave men and women of our law enforcement, taking criminals to court and ensuring they face the justice they deserve and sitting with the families of victims so they know someone was fighting for them helped me understand this is what I want to do with my life. As your Kanawha County Prosecutor I will never shy away from a fight to protect the people of Kanawha County.
If I am fortunate enough to serve as your Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney, you can be assured I will be a strong, tough, conservative voice for you. I will be tough on crime. Criminals will know, if they come to our county to push drugs, to rob, to destroy property, to abuse women or children or commit any other heinous act against our citizens, I will tirelessly pursue them and ensure justice is served.
Thank you for taking time to get to know me. Together, we can make Kanawha County an even greater place to live and work. If you want to discuss any issues or ideas with me, please don’t hesitate to contact me at morgan@morganswitzer.com.
